pulmonary arteriovenous malformation: still a surgical consideration
نویسندگان
چکیده
pulmonary arteriovenous malformations are rare clinical entities thai are associated with right to left shunts, and are often clinically presented by the triad of dyspnea, cyanosis, and digital clubbing. currently, transcatheter embolization of fistula is gaining increasing popularity as the superior therapeutic option. in certain situations, however, surgery is preferred. two cases of direct pulmonary artery ■ left atrial fistulas are described who, were treated simply by surgery with no recurrence.

Pulmonary arteriovenous malformation.
Pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (PAVM) are rare pulmonary vascular anomalies. Although most patients are asymptomatic, PAVMs can cause dyspnoea from right-to-left shunt. Because of paradoxical emboli, various central nervous system complications have been described including stroke and brain abscess. There is a strong association between PAVM and hereditary haemorrhagic telangiectasia. Ch...

A 44-year-old man was admitted with coughing and dyspnea for 3 weeks. Chest radiography and thoracic CT scanning confirmed a huge left lung arteriovenous malformation (Fig. 1). Due to a prohibitively high operative risk, he was investigated with pulmonary angiography in preparation for embolization therapy (Fig. 2). The patient subsequently refused all further therapy. European Journal of Cardi...

A35-year-old white woman with a history of migraine headaches and a grade 2 systolic murmur presented with symptoms of slurred speech, left-sided facial droop, and left hemiparesis after a hysterectomy. These symptoms resolved over several days, and in an effort to identify a potential cardiac source of embolism, a transesophageal echocardiogram was performed. Findings were consistent with a ri...

Background and purpose: Pulmonary arteriovenous malformations (PAVM) are lung lesions that affect most of the periphery of the lower lobes, and are manifested by dyspnea, hemoptysis, and hemothorax. Pregnancy is one of the conditions in which these malformations appear due to hemodynamic changes and hormonal factors such as increased levels of estrogen. This paper presents the case of a pregna...
متن کاملEmbolisation for pulmonary arteriovenous malformation.
BACKGROUND Pulmonary arteriovenous malformations are abnormal direct connections between the pulmonary artery and pulmonary vein which result in a right-to-left shunt. They are associated with substantial morbidity and mortality mainly from the effects of paradoxical emboli. Potential complications include stroke, cerebral abscess, pulmonary haemorrhage and hypoxaemia. Embolisation is an endova...
